Women's Cross Country Ranked No. 6Highest ranking in the program's history.September 28, 1998 WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Wake Forest women's cross country squad, led by junior All-American Janelle Kraus, has jumped to No. 6 in the latest NCAA Cross Country Coaches' Poll.
The sixth place ranking ties the mark for the highest ranking in the program's history. Wake Forest was also ranked sixth for a brief period during the 1989 season.
The Demon Deacons earned the lofty ranking after strong showings in each of their first three meets of the season. Wake Forest has captured the team title at the Appalachian State Invitational, the Lou Onesty Invitational and the Iona Meet of Champions while Kraus has won the individual title at all three races.
Kraus' first place run last weekend at Iona helped Wake Forest to a first place team finish out of 21 teams competing. The Demon Deacons finished ahead of second place Dartmouth, which was ranked third in the nation at the time.
The Demon Deacons will be back in action this weekend as the Wake Forest women's cross country team will compete at the Wake Forest Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 3. The race will begin at 11 a.m. for the women's teams while the men's race will start at 11:45 a.m. The event will be the lone home meet of the 1998 season for the Deacs. |
