September 22, 1998 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's cross country team will compete in their third meet of the 1998 season this weekend at the Iona Meet of Champions in Van Cortland Park, N.Y. The Demon Deacons, led by junior All-American Janelle Kraus, are off to a fast start to the season, posting team wins in each of their first two meets of the year. The meet at Iona will be a homecoming of sorts for Kraus, who hails from Shelter Island, N.Y.
KRAUS PICKS UP IN 1998 WHERE SHE LEFT OFF IN 1997 Last year, Kraus captured four individual titles, including the ACC Championship, en route to earning All-America and All-ACC honors. This season, Kraus has picked up where she left off by capturing the individual title in each of the first two meets in which Wake Forest has competed. Kraus now owns six individual titles in her outstanding career and will look to add to that total this week at the Iona Meet of Champions.

KRAUS EARNS ACC PERFORMER OF THE WEEK HONORS TWICE The award is nothing new to Kraus, however. She captured the honor a league-high four times last season.
SELVIDIO OPENS 1998 WITH STRONG PERFORMANCES Selvidio, who has struggled with injuries throughout her career, is now in excellent condition and is poised for an outstanding season this fall.
DEMON DEACONS EARN #14 RANKING IN PRESEASON POLL BYU is ranked first in the poll, receiving eight of nine first-place votes. Stanford placed second while Dartmouth, Colorado and Michigan rounded out the top five. Wake Forest is ranked second in the Southeast Regional rankings, trailing only ACC-rival NC State.
