Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's cross country team was ranked 12th in the FinishLynx Women's Cross Country National Poll. The poll is conducted by the Women's Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Deacons are coming off a season in which they placed 19th overall in the NCAA Championships. The 2005 season began on Sept. 2, with a team victory in the WFU Relays.

Colorado edged out Duke for the top spot in the poll. Notre Dame, Stanford, Michigan, BYU, Providence, Arizona State, NC State, and Villanova round out the top-10. Columbia is ranked 11th and the Deacons are 12th. Virginia (25th) and North Carolina (26th) are the other schools representing the ACC. Florida State and Boston College are both receiving votes in the poll.

The Demon Deacons will next compete at the New Collegiate Cross Country Invitational at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, N.C. The race will be held on Friday, Sept. 16.
