VANCOUVER, WA - Anne Bersagel and Danielle Coon, freshmen distance runners on the Wake Forest cross country and track & field teams, competed Saturday at the 2002 USA Winter Cross Country Junior Championships at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. Bersagel, a Greeley, CO, native, ran a 21:53 on the 6,000m course to take seventh place, just missing the cut to make the national team. The top six finishers are eligible to compete at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, March 23-24 in Dublin, Ireland.

Coon, who hails from Ganesvoort, NY, finished 15th with a time of 22:22.

Bersagel led the Demon Deacon women's cross country team in four races last fall and automatically qualified individually for the NCAA Championships. Coon led Wake Forest's women's cross country team last fall at the Roy Griak Invitational and was the second fastest runner on the team, behind Bersagel.
