Kraus Wins As Deacons Dominate Davidson Invitational
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -Sophomore Janelle Kraus (Shelter Island, NY) won her second race in as many tries in 1997, as the Wake Forest women's cross country team recorded a rare perfect meet at the Davidson Invitational on Saturday, September 13.
The Deacs owned the event's top-six runners and eight of the top-10. Kraus led the way with a time of 18:50. Amy Wallace (Wakefield, MA) finished second with a time of 19:08 to record her second top-three finish of the season.
Freshman Kelly Brady (Norwich, VT) ran a time of 19:17 to finish third. She joins Kraus and Wallace in having two top-five finishes in 1997. The final two scoring Deacons were Jill Snyder (Lewisburg, PA) and Emily Selvidio (Westerly, RI). Snyder recorded a time of 19:26 to place fourth, while Selvidio finished fifth with a time of 19:28.
Beck Pollock (Albany, NY) finished the sixth with a time of 19:41. Freshmen Summer Shaw and Kathleen Kuhnert finished the race eight and 10th respectively. Shaw ran a time of 20:01, while Kuhnert finished in a time of 20:14.
Kraus Opens Season With Two Straight Wins
Sophomore Janelle Kraus has opened the 1997 cross country season with two consecutive wins. Her first win came at the Appalachian State Invitational, September 6. She finished that race in a time of 17:52, the third fastest time of her career.
Her performance at the Appalachian State meet helped her earn the ACC Performer-of-the-Week award.
September 13, she picked up another win at the Davidson Invitational. At Davidson, she ran a time of 18:50.
