Kraus Wins ACC Championship

TALLAHASSEE, FL--Sophomore Janelle Kraus (Shelter Island, NY) became the first women's Wake Forest cross country runner to win the ACC Championship since Seana Arnold in 1989 on Monday morning in Tallahassee, FL.

Kraus' time of 17:07 in the 5K helped the Deacs finish second in the team competition to NC State. Kraus edged out NC State's Laura Rhoads by five seconds for her fourth title of the season. It was a special win for Kraus who two weeks earlier finished second to Rhodes by eight seconds at the North Carolina Collegiate in Charlotte.

Freshman Kelly Brady (Norwich, VT) finished fourth in the race with a season best time of 17:35.4. With their top-10 finishes, both Kraus and Brady have earned All-ACC honors for 1997. Brady becomes the first Deacon freshman since Nicole Stevenson in 1992 to earn such honors.

Three other Deacs finished among the top-16 as junior Amy Wallace (Wakefield, MA) was 12th (17:56.3), sophomore Jill Snyder (Lewisburg, PA) finished 15th (18:02.1) and sophomore Emily Selvidio (Westerly, RI) was 16th (18:05.3).
