VAN CORTLAND PARK, N.Y. - The Wake Forest women's cross country team took fourth place with 119 points at the Iona Meet of Champions Saturday morning. The Demon Deacons finished ahead of 16 teams.

"We feel pretty good with a fourth place finish here," said Wake Forest head coach Annie Schweitzer Bennett. "Overall we've set ourselves up so that we have to finish in the top three in our region, which we all feel we can do. We basically felt that we had an outstanding performance from everybody here today. We feel like we're right on track. We're improving each week and that's what it takes - everybody improving and staying healthy."

Sara Day led the Deacs, taking fourth place overall with a time of 20:51 on the 5,000 Meter course. The senior from Winston-Salem, N.C. has led Wake Forest in its last three races. Maggie Guiney from Boston College was the individual winner, clocking 20:40. Boston College won the event with a team score of 26.

The Demon Deacons will return to action Saturday, Oct. 14 when the women's team will head to Greenville, S.C. to compete in the Pre-Regional meet and the men's squad will travel to Ames, Iowa to race in the Pre-National meet.
