Deacon Volleyball Invitational Results and Recaps

Wake Forest def. College of Charleston - 6-15, 14-16, 15-9, 15-3, 15-7
In the tournament opener, Wake Forest rallied from two games down behind Sharon Harmsworth's 26 kills to defeat the College of Charleston. With the win Wake Forest improved to 5-0 at home in 1997, the Deacs only recorded four home wins all of last season. Lauren Taylor led the College of Charleston with 16 kills.

West Virginia def. Mississippi - 15-13, 16-14, 7-15, 15-12
In a four game match that took close to two and a half hours, West Virginia outlasted Mississippi. Adriana Hardy of West Virginia recorded 31 kills and Megan Porter added 27 to lead the Mountaineers. Mississippi's Leslie Bourgeois had 21 kills with only three errors and 23 digs to pace the Lady Rebels.

Rutgers def. College of Charleston (7-5) - 15-12, 15-9, 15-13
Rutgers withstood a College of Charleston rally in the third game to take the match 3-0. The Knights were led by Lola Opadiran with 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .419. Teammate Cheri Drake had 13 kills and a match high hitting percentage of .500. The Cougars were led by Lauren Taylor who had 13 kills.

West Virginia (6-5) def. Wake Forest (6-5) - 15-11, 15-8, 15-12
The Mountaineers ended the Deacs five-match home winning streak with a 3-0 win. Adriana Hardy had 14 kills and 13 digs to lead West Virginia in both categories. Sharon Harmsworth led Wake Forest with 13 kills and 12 digs.

Mississippi (3-8) def. Rutgers (7-6) - 15-7, 15-13, 9-15, 15-2
Susan Argue had 20 kills and a hitting percentage of .385 to lead Mississippi past Rutgers in the nightcap of the first day of the Deacon Invitational. Setter Lisa Franinno recorded 42 kills for the Lady Rebels. Cheri Drake had 14 kills to lead Rutgers.
