Demon Deacons Fall to UVa in Three Games

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Tamara Shulman (Dallas, Texas/Lake Highlands) and Andrea Fischer (Santa Barbara, Calif/Santa Barbara) had nine kills apiece to pace a balanced attack as Virginia downed Wake Forest in a match played at Memorial Gym. The Cavalier win snapped a three-game losing streak within the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The nine kills was a season-best effort for Shulman, who has appeared in just five matches this year due to numerous knee injuries. Shulman made just one hitting error in 17 attempts to finish with a game-high .471 hitting percentage. Mary Frances Scott (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) again led the UVa attack with 34 assists.

In the second game, Virginia (13-8, 2-3 ACC) jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead before Wake Forest answered back to even the score, 5-5. Amanda Wells (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough) then recorded a service ace to spark a 10-0 Cavalier run. Wells finished with four of the Cavaliers 10 aces in the match.

Katie Horne led Wake Forest with five kills, while Amber Grahn finished with 15 assists.
