INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Recent Wake Forest graduate Michelle Sikes added another accomplishment to a remarkable year late Friday night when she finished third in the 5,000-meters at the AT&T World Track and Field Championships, earning her a spot on the USA roster at the World Track and Field Championships in Osaka, Japan.

Sikes, who graduated in May, ran a personal-best 15:09.28 and finsihed behind Shalane Flanagan and Jennifer Rhines. The top three finishers in each event earn the opportunity to compete at the World Track and Field Championships in late August.

Earlier this month Sikes won the 5,000-meters at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento to become the first female track athlete at Wake Forest to win an NCAA crown. She earned All-American honors in the process -- her fourth All-American selection in 2006-07.

Sikes recently received the Marge Crisp Award as Wake Forest's top female athlete for 2006-07. Earlier this year she was named a Rhodes Scholar as well as an ACC Postgradute Scholar.
