WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Beginning on Friday, March 21, the Demon Deacon Track & Field team will host the 2008 Wake Forest Open, an event featuring over 1400 athletes from 60 different schools and organizations. Top student-athletes from around the nation will get to compete head-to-head with several unattached standouts, including 2004 Olympic Trials Finalist Brian Chaput (Javelin) and Ghana Olympian sprinter Tanko Braimah. Lela V. Nelson, who recently finished 11th in the Long Jump event at the World Indoor Championships, along with internationally ranked heptathletes Chris Helwick and Chris Boyles will also participate at Wake Forest Open events. Three teams that finished in last year's Division I Top 25 Outdoor Rankings (USTFCCCA) will be competing this weekend, including North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech. There will also be top Division II competition, including Findlay and Indiana University of Pennsylvania who both finished in the Top 25 at the end of the 2007 Outdoor season.
