Feb. 13, 2000 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest womens indoor track team traveled to Penn State this weekend to compete in the Nittany Lion Qualifier Feb. 11-12. The Demon Deacons were led by senior Jill Snyder, who took first place in the mile, finishing with a time of 4:41.44. With that time, Snyder was an NCAA qualifier. Juniors Kathleen Kuhnert and Lauren May finished the mile run in 16th place and 19th place, respectively. Kuhnert ran the event in 5:13.01, while May crossed the finish line in 5:15.46. Valerie Waldron, a sophomore, completed the 1,000 meter event in 2:57.43 and placed fourth. Freshman Adralyn Wendel finished in 13th place with a time of 3:03.23. In the 500 meter dash, junior Summer Shaw finished in 6th place overall with a time of 1:17.03. Senior Alison Anibaldi finished the 800 meter run in 2:11.57, good for 5th place. Deacon junior Sara Day placed 7th in the 3,000 meter run, and freshman Marissa Derlaga placed 8th in the 5,000. Day finished in a time of 10:09.00, while Derlaga finished on a 20:00.78 pace. Trista Hopkins was the only Wake competitor in the 400 meter dash. Hopkins, a senior, finished 28th in the event, with a time of 1:00.53. Wake was successful in the relay events, placing 7th in the 4x400 meter relay, and 6th in the distance medley event. The 4 runners in the 4x400 finished in 3:54.61, while the Deacons posted a time of 11:56.01 in the distance medley relay.
The Wake Forest indoor squad will compete next in the ACC Indoor
Championships in Blacksburg, VA Feb. 18-19.
