ATLANTA -

Competing in the Georgia Tech Invitational on Saturday, freshman Alexandra Gove earned the 20th individual qualification on the Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams for the NCAA East Regional Championships being held in Gainesville, Fla., on May 25 and 26.  While Gove was the only new regional qualifier, several Deacons turned in impressive performances in their final opportunity to earn regional marks or times.

After the majority of Friday's events were postponed due to inclement weather in the area, the meet resumed on Saturday.  Unfortunately, the weather kept several Deacs from getting to compete.

Gove's time of 1:00.03 not only punched her ticket to the regional championships, but the time also shattered the school record in the event.  The record previously belonged to junior Michelle Duffey with a time of 1:00.34. 

Duffey, who was also in competition at the meet, ran another regionally-qualifying time of 1:00.72 on Saturday.

Sophomore Phillip Warsaw improved upon regionally-qualifying time in the same event, breaking his own school record in the process.  The Elizabethtown, Ky, native's time of 51.60 beat his previous best of 52.14 and moved him up on the national performance list in the 400-meter hurdles.

Breaking school records seemed to be the theme of the day for the Deacs, as Michael Bingham did the same in the 400-meter dash.  The junior ran a time of 45.62 in the event for a new personal best and to beat his own previous record of 46.13.

Also in the 400m, freshman Jonathan Reid ran new personal best as well.  His time of 47.40 took more than .6 seconds off his previous PR and narrowly missed a regionally-qualifying score.

The Deacs will now set their sights on the NCAA East Regional Championships to be held in two weeks.  In addition to the 20 individual qualifying marks the teams have earned, three Deacon relay teams will make the trip to Florida to vie for a chance to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., on June 6-9.
