John Williams is in his seventh year on the Demon Deacon coaching staff as an assistant coach for the Wake Forest Track and Field throwing events. In his time at Wake Forest, he has coached Demon Deacon Athletes to eight All-ACC performances, including ACC Hammer Champion Cliff Neal (2002), and six-time All-ACC performer Lindsay Neuberger. He has coached six school records in the throwing events during his time at Wake Forest. Williams oversees the fall training program for the track team during the off season. He also assists in all of the strength training for the track team. Before coming to Wake Forest, Williams served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Stephen F. Austin State University. He also served as interim head coach for the Ladyjacks team in the fall of 1999. John graduated from Stephen F. Austin with a degree in Speech Communication in December 1998. In his time at SFA, Williams was a five-time All-Southland Conference performer while competing for the Lumberjacks. He served as a team captain for four seasons. He was the recipient of the SFA Sportsmanship award as well as the Outstanding Community Involvement Award. Williams was also a member of the Dean's list multiple times at SFA. Williams, hails from Robert Lee, Texas and enjoys playing golf and camping in his leisure time. He also serves as an elder at River Oaks Community Church in Clemmons, NC. He and his wife Laurie had their first child, Amelia, in April of 2004. They are expecting their second child in July. The Williams family resides in Winston-Salem. |
