Women's Tennis Completes Successful Weekend
Deacons Beat South Carolina and Furman
WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The Wake Forest women's tennis team opened the season with two impressive road victories this weekend. On Saturday, the 13th-ranked Deacons defeated the 19th-ranked team from South Carolina 7-2, and on Sunday the team rolled over Furman 8-1.
Wake Forest's ace doubles team of Nicola Kaiwai and Dorothee Kurz (ranked 6th in the country) continued its strong play by winning at No 1 doubles against the Gamecocks. Newcomer Mariel Verban won both her singles matches and combined with Lule Aydin to win at No 1 doubles versus Furman. Lule Aydin, Jackie Houston, Annmarie Milton, and Kurz also won two singles matches apiece.
The Demon Deacons return to action on Feb. 19-22 when they travel to Madison, WI for the National Team Indoors.
