April 19, 2007 CARY, N.C. - The sixth-seeded Wake Forest women's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinal match of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship after defeating 11th-seeded Maryland, 4-0, in a first-round match. The Demon Deacons face third-seeded North Carolina on Friday in a 3 p.m. match. Maryland ends the season with an 8-15 overall record, while Wake improves to 14-6 overall. After several attempts to play outdoors at the Cary Tennis Park, action had to be moved indoors, but the Deacs stay focused as they picked up the doubles point. At No. 2 doubles, Sasha Kulikova and Ana Jerman put away Brooke Rogers and Maggie MacKeever 8-2, while Christine Simpson and Sierra Poske defeated Elyse Steiner and Lisa Miller 8-3 at the third spot.
