Freshman Sierra Poske won her second singles match in as many days and Alex Hirsch added the only other point as the No. 17 Wake Forest women's tennis team closed its home season with a 5-2 loss to No. 33 Virginia, Sunday afternoon.
The Demon Deacons, who defeated No. 66 Virginia Tech on Saturday, drop to 10-6 overall and 3-4 in the ACC, while Virginia improves to 8-8 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
Hirsch played in the top spot for the Deacs and defeated Douglas Wink, 6-4, 6-4. Currently ranked No. 43 by the ITA, Hirsch has won six of her last eight matches and owns a 12-4 record this spring. Picking up the other point for the Demon Deacons, Poske defeated Amanda Rales, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
Wake Forest won one of the doubles matches with an 8-1 victory by Christine Simpson and Christian Tara at No. 3. Poske and Ana Jerman paired up in the No. 2 position and brought the match down to the wire, but Wink and Rachel Del Priore won the point for the Cavaliers with the 9-7 victory.
The Demon Deacons will next travel to Boston College on Friday, April 7 and then Maryland on Sunday, April 9.
