Women's Tennis Loses at USTA/ITA Indoor Team Tennis Championship
No. 13 Deacons fall to No. 5 Georgia.

MADISON, Wis. -- The 13th-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis lost its second round match at the USTA/ITA Women's National Indoor Team Tennis Championship. The Deacons were defeated 5-1 by the 5th-ranked team from Georgia. The loss was the team's first of the season and drops its record to 3-1.
The Deacons fell to the talented Bulldogs in all but one of the singles matches. Wake Forest's Dorothee Kurtz provided the lone bright spot, winning at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore Annemarie Milton battled at No. 5 only to lose 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Nicola Kaiwai dropped her match at No. 1 to Marissa Catlin, who is currently ranked 2nd in the country. Georgia's Vanessa Castellano, ranked 23rd, defeated Lule Aydin in a close match at No. 2, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Aarthi Venkatesan, ranked 55th, beat Mariel Verban at No. 3, 7-5, 6-2.
Wake Forest's steller doubles team of Kaiwai and Kurz, ranked 5th in the nation, met the #1-ranked team in the country at No. 1 and lost 8-3. Nos. 2 and 3 doubles matches did not play.
The Demon Deacons return to action tomorrow afternoon when they face the loser of tonight's match between Vanderbilt and California.
