WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 23 Wake Forest women's tennis team dropped its first match of the season, a 4-3 battle against No. 22 Notre Dame, Saturday afternoon at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. The Demon Deacons drop to 3-1 on the season, while the Fighting Irish improve to 3-0 on the season. The Demon Deacons took home victories in the top three singles positions, including No. 42 Alex Hirsch at No. 1. The victory over No. 23 Catrina Thompson marks the second win over a top-25 opponent this season. Also tallying her second upset of the year, No. 64 Ashlee Davis defeated No. 44 Christian Thompson, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2. Freshman Ana Jerman rounded out the singles victories for the Deacs, a 7-5, 6-3 win over Brook Buck. Playing against three nationally ranked pairs, the Demon Deacons dropped all three doubles matches. Hirsch and Davis paired up in the No. 1 position and fell to the nation's top-ranked tandem of Thompson and Thompson. At No. 2, Jerman and Christian Tara faced the 35th ranked team and Sierra Poske and Christine Simpson faced the 45th ranked team. This is the first time this season that Wake Forest has faced three ranked doubles teams. The Demon Deacons will look to rebound on Sunday, Feb. 12 against Illinois. Match time is set for 12 p.m.
