CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Wake Forest sophomore Mariel Verban defeated Duke's Megan Miller on Sunday afternoon to advance to the championship match of the 1999 ACC Women's Indoor Tennis Championships. Verban won in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-3.

Verban, the tournament's top seed, will now face second seeded Vanessa Webb of Duke. Webb defeated Verban during last season ACC Outdoor Championship match.

The Deacon freshmen doubles team of Janet Bergman and Maren Haus advanced to the semifinals of the tournament, but were defeated in that round by Duke's Megan Miller and Kathy Sell, 9-8 (3). The Wake combo knocked off NC State's Ioana Plesu and Brooke Siebel, 9-8 (2), to reach the semifinals.

The championship matches will be held Monday morning on the University of North Carolina campus.
