Wake Forrest All-Americans

LIZ BARKER 1994

The third time proved to be a charm for Liz Barker, as she gained the lofty status of All-American on her third trip to the NCAA Championships.

Barker teamed with Dana Evans to reach the semi-finals of the 1994 NCAA Doubles Championship to gain the honor, becoming the first two players in women's tennis history to achieve that lofty status. They finished the season ranked 16th in the nation as a unit after peaking at No. 7 -- the highest spot ever for a Wake Forest doubles team.

A four-year starter for the Deacons, Barker won the ACC flight championship at No. 3 singles as a sophomore and closed out her career with a record of 21-12 against conference opponents. Overall, Barker had a singles record of 87-56 and a doubles mark of 85-38, but a majority of those wins came with Evans (67-28).

Barker, an ACC Academic Honor Roll member, led the Deacons in singles victories as a freshman with a 31-9 record. That marked the first time since 1988 that a player won at least 30 matches.

TERRY ANN ZAWACKI 1994 & 1996

The only player in school history to finish nationally ranked in singles in four consecutive seasons, Terry Ann Zawacki finished her senior year 12th in the ITA poll to gain all-America honors. She was also named to the All-America team after her sophomore year when she was ranked #20.

Zawacki, who peaked as high as No. 6 in the ITA national rankings, became the first player in women's tennis history at Wake Forest to reach the NCAA Singles Championships when she qualified as a freshman in 1992. She was the first player to compete in all four legs of the ITA's collegiate grand slam -- the National Clay Courts, Riviera All-American, Rolex Indoors, and NCAA Championships.

Zawacki, the ITA Southeast Region Rookie of the Year in 1992, finished that year with a national singles ranking of No. 38. She was named All-Atlantic Coast Conference each of her four years at Wake Forest and led the Deacons to the finals of the ACC Tournament in 1995 and 1996.

Zawacki played exclusively at No. 1 singles for the Deacons and is Wake Forest's career leader in singles victories with a 116-69 overall record during her four year career.

DANA EVANS 1994

Dana Evans was the other half of Wake Forest's No. 1 doubles team that, despite being unseeded, reached the semi-finals of the 1994 NCAA Doubles championship en route to All-America status.

After upsetting the seventh-seeded team of Jackie Moe and Kelly Pace from Texas, the duo won their next two matches before falling to eventual champions Nora Koves and Rebecca Jensen of Kansas.

She appeared in the NCAA's four times during her career in doubles, but Evans was also a proven singles player. She became the first player in school history to be ranked nationally in both singles and doubles during her career. Evans peaked at No. 30 in singles competition during the 1991 season while her highest doubles ranking was No. 7.

A former Southeast Region ITA Rookie of the Year in 1992, Evans finished her career with an overall singles mark of 91-70 and a doubles record that ended at 90-39.

Evans, who was named All-ACC twice during her career, teamed with Barker to win the 1993 Rolex Regional Indoor championship.

AMY JENSEN 1997

Although she played only one year for Wake Forest, Amy Jensen earned All-American status as a freshman when she advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship in 1997. She upset fifth-seeded Cristina Moros from Texas in the first round and then defeated Pepperdine's Sophia Csapo before falling to tournament finalist Julie Scott from Stanford in the round of 16.

Jensen compiled an outstanding 24-6 singles record during the spring of 1997, including a 7-1 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play to earn the league flight championship at No. 2 singles. She was selected to the all-ACC team by the conference coaches.

Named the ITA's Southeast Region "Player to Watch" for 1997, Jensen helped lead the Deacons to a third consecutive appearance in the ACC Championship finals. She was ranked No. 34 in the final ITA poll of 1997.

Jensen was part of a Wake Forest team that advanced to the NCAA Championships for the fourth consecutive season and was ranked as high as No. 7 before finishing the season ranked No. 11.
