Wake Forest-Morehead State Game Notes
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - No. 23 Wake Forest will open its NCAA Tournament run at home on Friday at 5 p.m. (ET), playing host to the Morehead State Eagles in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Georgia and James Madison will meet in the other first round matchup, scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday at Spry Stadium. The winners of Friday's games will meet in the second round on Sunday at 1 p.m. (ET). The Demon Deacons are making their 13th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Wake Forest has an all-time record of 5-10-1 in the NCAA Tournament, including a 3-1-0 mark when playing at home. Wake is hosting an NCAA Tournament game for the fourth time in school history. Wake Forest enters the NCAA Tournament with a 12-7-0 record. The Deacs dropped a hard-fought 3-2 double overtime contest to Virginia in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. A member of the Ohio Valley Conference, Morehead State earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament by winning its conference tournament. The Eagles, 9-8-3 overall and 4-2-2 in OVC play, defeated UT Martin 1-0 in the conference championship match. Morehead State is led by Jillian Birchmeier, who has scored nine goals on the season and has 21 points overall. Devan Jordan leads the team with five assists on the year. Lilly Meisner has played in 16 games this season, allowing 13 goals on the year and posting a 0.90 goals against average. Meisner has six shutouts on the year. The Deacons and Eagles are meeting for the first time in series history. Friday's match will also mark the first time that Wake Forest has faced a team from the OVC.
