Wake Forest Women's Soccer Announces 2008 Schedule

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 2008 Wake Forest women's soccer schedule features top teams from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Rankings (NSCAA), including Texas A&M, North Carolina and Florida State.

Wake Forest will kick off play on August 17 with a home exhibition contest against Appalachian State, followed by another preseason match in Winston-Salem with Southeastern Conference power Vanderbilt on August 19.

Texas A&M highlights the non-conference portion of the 2008 schedule. The Aggies finished 13th in the final NSCAA poll, following their run the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament before bowing out to then-top-ranked North Carolina. Wake Forest will face the Big 12 competitor at the Virginia Tech Classic on September 7 in Blacksburg, Va.

The Demon Deacons will host the Wake Forest Nike Tournament on September 12-14, which is set to feature a pair of league champions, along with Virginia Tech. On the opening night of the tourney, Wake will face Charlotte, who recently claimed its second consecutive A-10 crown. On September 14, the Deacons will play the Cal State Fullerton Titans, who earned their fourth bid to the NCAA tournament in 2007 following their Big West Tournament title.

After hosting local rival UNC Greensboro on September 19, the Deacons will dive into a non-stop conference schedule that opens with three matches at Spry Stadium. At the end of the 2007 season, the ACC placed six schools in the NSCAA Top 25, including College Cup Finalist Florida State. This season, Wake will welcome Boston College (Sept, 28), who finished 24th in the NSCAA rankings and national powerhouse North Carolina (Oct. 5), who led the conference with a 9-1-0 record. The Demon Deacons will also host Maryland (Sept. 25), Clemson (Oct. 12) and NC State (Nov. 2).

This season, the ACC Tournament will be held just down Tobacco Road in Cary, N.C. on November 5-9. The North Carolina site will also serve as the 2008 College Cup location, set for December 5-7.
