Mathews Leads Wake Forest Over Loyola, 4-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior Stefanie Mathews scored one goal and assisted another to lead No. 15 Wake Forest to a 4-0 women's soccer victory over Loyola College Sunday in the Maryland/Puma Tournament at College Park, Md.

Mathews scored an unassisted goal at the 37:29 mark and then assisted teammate Karli Schilling at 83:24.

Junior Meghan Suddes got Wake Forest (5-1, 1-1 ACC) on the board first when she found the back of the net at 22:49 off an assist by sophmore Liz Burnette. Junior Jessen Snyder scored an unassisted goal just four minutes later.

Goalkeepers Beth Klein and Jacki Ball combined for the shutout and made five saves. The Deacons outshot Loyola 12-6.

Wake Forest returns to action next weekend when they travel to compete in the Stanford/Nike Invitational. The Deacons face San Francisco on Friday at 6 p.m. and play host Stanford on Friday at 4 p.m.
