Wake Forest Downs Elon, 3-1, on "Senior Night"
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Cheryl Zimmermann, Meghan Suddes and Jessen Snyder each scored a goal to lead Wake Forest (11-6-1) to a 3-1 "Senior Night" victory over Elon (4-9-1) Wednesday night at Spry Stadium.
The Demon Deacons honored the nine members of the first senior class in the program's history before the game, and several of them played a major role in the game. Zimmermann, a senior who is Wake Forest's all-time scoring leader with 43 points, got the Deacs on the board at the 15:27 mark when she scored off passes from senior Kate Crowley and sophomore Anne Shropshire.
Elon tied the score at 1-1 when Stephanie Sorrells scored an unassisted goal at 34:14. The Deacons quickly regained the lead though, when junior Meghan Suddes found the back of the net off a pass from senior Meredith Lester.
Jessen Snyder added an insurance goal in the 77th minute to make the score 3-1. She was assisted by Andrea Pelletier.
The Deacons dominated play throughout the game, taking 25 shots to just six for Elon. Elon goalkeepers Meghan Millar and Summer Cork combined to make nine saves for the Fightin' Christians.
Wake Forest wraps up the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 2 when the Deacons travel to Durham to take on 8th-ranked Duke at 1 p.m.
