Wake Forest Defense Frustrates Top Ranked Tar Heels in 2-0 Carolina Victory

CHAPEL HILL, NC - The North Carolina women's soccer team, ranked No. 1 in the nation, was frustrated repeatedly by Wake Forest's stubborn defense Wednesday night before a crowd of 3,163, but scored two second half goals to defeat the Demon Deacons, 2-0.

Carolina improves to 16-0-1 on the season and 4-0 in the ACC. Wake Forest dropped to 9-6-1 and 1-5 in the conference.

North Carolina outshot Wake Forest 39-1, but only found the back of the net twice. The Tar Heels got on the board at 60:29 after a Wake Forest foul in the Demon Deacons' defensive third. Nel Fettig tapped the ball to Robin Confer who deposited a shot from 20 yards out into the the goal. After another Wake Forest foul, Nettig served a ball to Laurie Schwoy who scored at 86:47.

Wake Forest goalkeeper Beth Klein was busy all night for the Demon Deacons and made a season high 11 saves.

The Deacs return to action on Sunday when they face Colorado College in Williamsburg, Va., at 1 p.m.
