CARY, N.C. - Sarah Kozey found Wake Forest's only shots but it wasn't enough as the women's soccer team fell to the Duke Blue Devils, 3-0, in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals, Wednesday at the SAS Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C. The Deacs will now wait for a possible NCAA Tournament berth. The Deacs opened the game, fighting for possession and keeping the match scoreless until the 41st minute when Duke's Casey McCluskey received a pass from Carolyn Ford at midfield. Leaving the Wake defense behind, she launched the ball past Currie, putting Duke up 1-0 going into the half. Opening the second stanza, the Blue Devils came out strong, pressuring the defense from the beginning. Bringing the ball past the Wake defense, McCluskey fired a low cross to the center of the box, where Carolyn Riggs was waiting. Knocking the ball just wide of Currie's fingers, Duke went up, 2-0. Continuing to fight through the half, the Demon Deacons had trouble regaining momentum and Duke was able to increase its lead to three with 12 minutes left, as Darby Kroyer put it in the net off a corner, with the assists coming from Lorraine Quinn and Shelly Marshall. Playing the entire game for the Deacs, Currie found six saves, while Allison Lipsher notched two for Duke. As a team, Wake posted 14 fouls to the Blue Devils two, including two yellow cards. The Demon Deacons (10-6-2) finished fifth in the ACC, while the Blue Devils (13-6-0) finished fourth.
