Box Score

CLEMSON, S. C. - Junior Sarah Kozey scored her 12th goal of the season, helping the Wake Forest women's soccer team rally from a one goal deficit at the half, to tie Clemson, 2-2, in double overtime. The goal Kozey moves her into a tie for the most goals scored in a single season and moves her into sole possession of third place for the most career goals.

The tie for the Deacs keeps them out of the ACC tournament first-round game on Sunday and moves the team into the fifth place position entering next weeks tournament.

The Tigers opened the first half taking the first four shots of the game and holding possession of the ball until the 25th minute when Jayme Liegh Cargnoni found the Deacs first shot that landed wide. Kozey launched another shot for the Deacs in the 29th minute, but the Tigers were able to bring the ball down into Wake territory and find the back of the cage with eight minutes left in the half.

Going into the second stanza, the Deacs came out fighting, with Cargnoni and Kozey both finding shots for Wake in the first 10 minutes. On the third shot of the half, sophomore Taylor Toombs found Elizabeth Remy, who injected the ball past Lauren Johnston, tying the score at one all. The goal for Remy is her seventh of the season and the 12th of her career.

Answering the Deacs just five minutes later, Courtney Foster put the ball past Heather Currie to put the Tigers up 2-1. Undeterred, Kozey received the ball from Cargnoni in the 74th minute and tied the score, forcing the Tigers into overtime. The goal for Kozey ties her with Liz Burnette (1996) for the most goals scored in a single season.

During the first overtime period, the two teams traded fouls and the Tigers knocked a shot off, but no goals were scored, taking the game into another extra stanza. In the second overtime, Clemson came out and found a shot right off the whistle, but a save by Currie continued the game. A corner kick in the 106th minute resulted in a shot by Marissa Buckley that landed wide of the rails. A pair of fouls for both teams ended the second overtime period, leaving the score a 2-2.

Currie, playing all 110 minutes of the game, notched five saves, while Johnston posted five for the Tigers. Kozey put up four shots for the Deacs, while Remy posted two of the nine total. For Clemson, Foster put up six of the Tigers' 15 total. As a team, the Deacs had 14 fouls to the Tigers 16.

The Deacs close out the regular season with a 4-4-1 record and a 10-5-2 overall record, while Clemson moves to 4-4-1 and 10-6-1 overall.
