MIAMI - Brittney Macdonald's goal late in the first half proved to be the difference as Miami (10-6-3, 2-4-2 ACC) defeated No. 19 Wake Forest (10-6-0, 3-5-0 ACC) 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Cobb Stadium.

Wake Forest was able to outshoot the Hurricanes, holding an 11-9 advantage in shots, including a 7-3 edge in the second half. The Deacons and Hurricanes each managed four shots on goal.

The Deacons were able to put pressure on the Miami defense early in the game, taking five corner kicks in the first 20 minutes of the contest. The Deacons were not able to capitalize on any of the corner kick opportunities.

Miami only had one corner kick in the first half, but the Hurricanes were able to turn the corner kick into the only goal of the game in the 43rd minute. Off a corner kick from Lauren Singer, Macdonald headed the ball into the net for her second goal of the year to give Miami a 1-0 lead.

Wake Forest was able to muster seven shots in the second half as the Deacs tried to score the equalizer. Bianca D'Agostino had two shots on frame in the second half but both shots were saved by Miami goalkeeper Vikki Alonzo.

Jill Hutchinson had a scoring chance late in the game in the 84th minute. Hutchinson's shot was saved by Alonzo to keep Wake Forest scoreless.

Hutchinson led Wake Forest with three shots on the game, including two shots on goal. D'Agostino and Amanda Lebo each attempted two shots in the contest.

Alonzo made four saves in goal to record the shutout for the Hurricanes. Laura Morse made three saves in goal for the Deacons, allowing one goal.

Wake Forest is back in action on Thursday, traveling to Blacksburg, Va., for a 7 p.m. (ET) match against Virginia Tech. The match will be shown on ACC Select.
