WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Junior Anne Shropshire scored two goals to lead 19th-ranked Wake Forest to a 3-2 victory over visiting UNC Greensboro on Sunday afternoon at Spry Stadium. With the victory, Wake Forest improves to 11-3-1 overall and increases their season long win streak to five games. UNC Greensboro falls to 7-8-1. UNC Greensboro jumped on the scoreboard first at the 33:56 mark in the first half when Danica Baker fired in a shot from 22 yards out. Wake Forest tied the game just 40 seconds later when Shropshire scored off a pass from Meghan Suddes. The Demon Deacons took a 2-1 lead in the second half when Shropshire scored her second goal of the day at 57:20 on an assist by Karli Schilling. The Deacs took a 3-1 lead when Sarah Kate Noftsinger scored on a header at 62:04 after a pass from Stacy Roeck. The Spartans made the score 3-2 when Liza Rojas-Alford scored with 8:20 left in the game, but the Demon Deacon defense held UNCG at bay for the remainder of the game to claim the victory. Wake Forest outshot UNC Greensboro, 21-8, in the game and UNCG goalkeeper Kathryn Clewlew made 10 saves for the Spartans. The Demon Deacons return to action on Friday when they host Virginia at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
