WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest midfielder Emily Taggart scored a goal for the third consecutive game to lead the 7th-ranked Demon Deacons to a 3-1 victory over UNC Charlotte on Tuesday evening at Spry Stadium.

With the victory, Wake Forest improved to 9-2 on the season while UNC Charlotte dropped to 9-3. The loss snapped the 49ers six-match winning streak.

The Demon Deacons jumped on the scoreboard first just 7:39 into the game when forward Anne Shropshire scored from 10 yards out off a cross from Joline Charlton. The 49ers, however, netted the equalizer just two and a half minutes later when Dawn Geyer gathered up a loose ball and scored from 20 yards out at 9:58.

The Demon Deacons took a 2-1 lead with just 57 seconds left in the first half when Taggart stole the ball from UNCC keeper Jennifer Howell inside the box and scored into an empty net from eight yards. The Deacs added an insurance goal at 62:54 in the second half when midfielder Rachael Lewis gathered up a loose ball in the box and found the back of the net from 10 yards out.

Wake Forest dominated play for much of the game, outshooting UNC Charlotte 22-12, but Howell made eight saves in goal to keep the 49ers in the game. Wake Forest will return to action on Friday when the Demon Deacons visit Duke at 7 p.m. for a key Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.
