WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Juniors Sarah Winslow and Allie Sadow each scored a goal as the 12th-ranked Wake Forest (8-1-0, 1-0-0 ACC) women's soccer team opened Atlantic Coast Conference play with a 2-0 victory over Maryland (4-4-1, 0-1-0 ACC) on a rainy Thursday night at Spry Stadium.

Wake Forest controlled the game offensively, taking 14 shots to just five for Maryland. The Deacons held the Terrapins to only one shot on goal, while the Deacons had six shots on goal in the game.

Junior goalkeeper Laura Morse notched her fourth shut out of the season, making one save in net for the Deacons. Morse has yet to allow a goal on the season, playing just over 443 minutes without surrendering a goal.

The victory improves Wake Forest to 9-6-0 all-time in conference openers. The Deacons have now won its opening game in ACC play for two straight years.

Wake Forest got on the board first, scoring in the 32nd minute. Winslow took a shot from 22 yards out in the center of the field that beat the Maryland goalkeeper to give the Deacons a 1-0 edge. The goal was Winslow's fifth of the season.

The Deacons got an insurance goal late in the game, scoring at the 87:34 mark. Jill Hutchinson found Sadow just outside the six-yard box. Sadow deposited the ball in the back of the net for her team-leading sixth goal of the season to give Wake a two-goal advantage.

With the victory, Wake Forest extends its lead in the series against Maryland to 10-7-0. The Deacons have now won three consecutive games in the series and eight of the last 10 meetings.

Wake Forest closes out the first weekend of conference action on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m (ET), hosting No. 14 Boston College at Spry Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on the web by ACC Select.
