WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest midfielder Rachael Lewis and defender Stacy Roeck each scored one goal to lead the Demon Deacons to a 2-1 victory over Florida State on Sunday afternoon at Spry Stadium.

With the victory, Wake Forest improved to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Florida State dropped to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in league play.

The Demon Deacons jumped on the scoreboard first just 5:19 into the game when Roeck scored from five yards out to finish passes from Joline Charlton and Sarah Kate Noftsinger. Wake Forest stretched the lead to 2-0 in the first half when Lewis put a ball just inside the near post from 10 yards out at 33:34. Charlton and Karli Schilling assisted on the play.

The Seminoles cut the lead to 2-1 in the game's 53rd minute when Amanda Green took advantage of a disorganized Wake Forest defense and scored from 12 yards off a pass from Katie Talley.

Wake Forest dominated play for much of the game, outshooting Florida State 19-6, but the Seminoles hung in the game with solid play in goal from Jamie Gurtov and Sarah Crawford, who combined to make 11 saves. FSU had a chance to tie the score at 2-2 when a shot from Angela Bonaffino hit the crossbar in the game's 77th minute.

Wake Forest will return to action Sunday, September 26th when the Demon Deacons visit NC State at 1 p.m.
