Sept. 12, 2008 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Sophomore Bianca D'Agostino scored her first goal at Wake Forest and added an assist to lift No. 16 Wake Forest to a 3-0 victory over Charlotte on a beautiful Friday night at Spry Stadium. Wake Forest moves to 5-1-0 on the season, while Charlotte drops to 3-2-1. "We had a really, really good start tonight," head coach Tony da Luz said. "We did things that we wanted to do for the first 25 minutes or so. We did a great job executing and defending free kicks. It's good to have some different people score goals for us." D'Agostino, a sophomore transfer from Penn State, made her second start of the season and took full advantage. D'Agostino scored the first goal of the game in the 10th minute, and assisted on the final goal of the contest in the 52nd minute. "She's done a good job making a difficult transition from Penn State to here," da Luz said. "She's really comfortable and playing well. She's been improving every day in practice. She deserved the start and took great advantage of it. She's a skillful player." The contest was a physical one, as the two teams combined for 37 fouls. Charlotte had 19 fouls, including two yellow cards, while Wake Forest committed 18 fouls, with one yellow card. Laura Morse picked up her second win of the season. Morse made her second start of the year, playing the entire 90 minutes and making a season-high tying four saves. Wake Forest scored early in the contest, jumping on the scoreboard at the 9:26 mark of the first half. Allie Sadow played a cross in front of the net that found D'Agostino. The Longmeadow, Mass., native fired a shot from five yards out, directly in front of the net to give the Deacons a 1-0 advantage. The final two goals for Wake Forest came on free kicks. Amanda Lebo extended Wake's lead to 2-0 in the 49th minute, scoring her second goal of the season. Lebo fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box. It appeared the keeper had made the save, but the ball deflected off the keeper and bounced into the net.
Caitlin Farrell closed out the scoring just under four minutes later with her second goal of the season. D'Agostino sent a free kick toward the net and the Charlotte keeper made the stop, but the ball rolled a few yards out. Farrell picked up the loose ball, unleashing a shot from 14 yards out that found the net to close out the scoring. Virginia Tech won the opening game of the day, posting a 3-0 victory over No. 22 Cal State Fullerton. The Deacons are back in action on Sunday in the final day of the Wake Forest Nike Tournament.
