Sept. 7, 2008 BLACKSBURG, Va. - No. 10 Wake Forest (4-1-0) dropped its first game of the season, falling 2-1 to No. 11 Texas A&M (5-1-0) on Sunday afternoon at Virginia Tech Soccer Stadium. The Deacons finished 1-1 in the Hawthorn Suites Hokie Invitational, defeating George Washington 2-0 on Friday. Wake Forest was able to outshoot Texas A&M 16-13, although the Aggies did have eight shots on goal compared to four for the Deacons. Sophomore Amanda Barasha made her fourth start in goal on the season, allowing a season-high two shots. Barasha made six saves in the game. The Deacons were led offensively by junior Jill Hutchinson. Hutchinson scored her team-leading fifth goal of the year in the game and led the team with five shots. Wake Forest had its best scoring opportunity of the first half in the 38th minute. Amanda Lebo fired a shot that hit the crossbar, keeping the game tied at zero. Texas A&M struck first, scoring in the 49th minute. Becca Herrera sent a pass from the right side of the field, toward the near post. Inge Harding got a head on the ball from six yards out, sending the ball inside the near post to give the Aggies a 1-0 advantage. A goal at the 76:34 mark extended the Texas A&M lead to 2-0 as Cydne Currie headed the ball into the net. Wake Forest got on the board in the 87th minute. Hutchinson picked up a loose ball inside the box and deposited the ball into the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season. Wake Forest returns home next weekend for the Wake Forest Nike Tournament.
