Charlotte, N.C. - Junior co-captain Sarah Kozey scored the game-winning goal in double overtime against Ole Miss, to lead the Wake Forest women's soccer team to a first-place finish at the Charlotte Classic. The Demon Deacons are yet to fall to an opponent this season and move to 3-0-1 overall. Kozey, who has scored in every game this season, including exhibitions, has five goals in regular season play and in combination with her two assists, leads the team with 12 point. Junior Melanie Schneider, who found two shots on goal against Ole Miss, is not far behind Kozey with three season goals, with two of them coming against Virginia Commonwealth earlier in the weekend. Against Ole Miss, the Deacs took their time finding the back of the cage, keeping the game scoreless through the first half. Late in the second, Jayme Liegh Cargnoni was able to fire the ball past Ann Shelton, the Mississippi keeper, after a cross from sophomore Elizabeth Remy. The goal is Cargnoni's first of the season. Five minutes after the first goal, the Rebels answered back to tie the game with a goal from about two yards out after a clear from the Wake Forest defense. Going into the overtime period, Kozey was able to breakaway in the 116th minute after a pass from Tara Caldwell. Beating the keeper, Kozey slipped the ball in the cage to end the game. Playing between the rails for the Deacs, Ruth Ann Supica notched five saves, while Shelton found six for Ole Miss. As a team, Wake out-shot the Rebels, 18 to 13, despite only three corner kicks to Mississippi's six. The Deacs will return to action at Spry Stadium on Friday, Sept. 10 as they host the Wake Forest/adidas Soccer Classic with Denver, Colorado and Utah. The first game for Wake Forest will be against Colorado at 7:30 p.m.
