Wake Forest’s starting goalkeeper in 1997 who missed all of the 1998 season as she worked to recover from a knee injury suffered in the final weeks of 1997 ... now fully recovered, she participated with the team during spring workouts at full speed ... will challenge for playing time in goal with sophomore Erin Regan this season.
In 1997: Had her season come to an end in the ACC Tournament with a knee injury ... tore her ACL while making a save against Duke during penalty kicks after the game was tied at the end of overtime ... actually made two more saves after suffering the injury, although Duke would go on to win the game ... voted the team’s MVP after an outstanding season in goal ... led the ACC in solo shutouts while ranking second in save percentage (.836) and fourth in goals allowed average (1.20) ... faced 39 shots against #1 North Carolina and allowed just two goals.
In 1996: Immediately stepped into the starting role in goal as a freshman, starting 12 out of 14 games, including each of the the last 10 ... made nine saves in the win over Duke in the ACC Tournament ... helped lead the Deacons to their NCAA tournament win over Clemson by making a point-blank save with six minutes remaining.
Background: Led South Side High to three state championships during her four-year prep career ... named the state’s most outstanding goalkeeper on each of those three occasions ... named All-East, All-State and All-County while taking her team to the conference and Long Island championships prior to winning the state crown in 1995 ... also competed in basketball and softball at South Side ... competed for the Yorktown Jaguars on the club level and keyed that team’s championship in the 1995 Junior Orange Bowl Elite Division ... born on Sept. 25, 1978 ... the daughter of Robert and JoAnn Klein of Rockville Centre, NY.
