WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's soccer team recieved
an invitation to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season,
announced Tuesday by the NCAA Women's Soccer Committee.
The Demon
Deacons, who finished the regular season with a record of 11-7-2, will play
North Carolina (22-0-1), the tournament's top seed and defending national
champion, on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Chapel Hill, NC. The Tar Heels defeated
the Deacs, 2-0, earlier in the regular season.
"We are extremely
excited to earn an invitation to the NCAA Tournament," said first-year head
coach Tony da Luz. "This team worked hard throughout the season and getting
a bid to the tournament is a great reward for our players."
North Carolina, ranked No. 1 in the nation throughout the season, has won
13 of the first 15 NCAA Women's Soccer Championships. The Tar Heels earned
an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after capturing their ninth
consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championship last weekend at Spry
Stadium on the Wake Forest campus.
"North Carolina has an outstanding team with great players," said da Luz.
"Obviously playing them will be a difficult challenge, but we look forward
to the opportunity to play them once again this season."
The Demon
Deacons were one of six ACC teams to make the 32-team field. Other
conference schools selected are Duke, Clemson, Virginia and Maryland.
