Mathews Earns ACC Player Of The Week Honors In Women's Soccer

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Junior Stefanie Mathews (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic) was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week after leading the Wake Forest women's soccer team to a 2-0 record last week.

Mathews scored all four Wake Forest goals as the Demon Deacons claimed the championship at the Stanford/Nike Invitational last weekend. Against San Francisco, the forward scored two goals in a 2-0 Deacon victory, and then added two more goals in a 2-1 win over No. 11 Stanford. Mathews was named to the all-tournament team.

The Demon Deacons, ranked No. 12 this week by Soccer America, have been led offensively by Mathews all season. She leads the team with five goals scored and ranks second on the squad with 12 points.

Wake Forest hosts No. 4 Virginia this Sunday at 1 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
