WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - After a dominating team performance at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational over the weekend, the Wake Forest women's golf team was named the Golfweek Women's Team of the Week on Monday. The Demon Deacons used a complete team effort to win the Lady Tar Heel by 12-shots over host North Carolina. Wake had three players finish in the top-five as senior Jean Chua and sophomore Natalie Sheary finished at even par and tied for medalist honors with North Carolina's Catherine O'Donnell. Senior Nannette Hill also had a good tournament, finishing tied for fourth. Freshman Cheyenne Woods came through with her lowest round of the season on Sunday, a 1-under par 71 and junior Dolores White posted three solid rounds over the weekend. Wake was tied for first with Virginia after an opening round 294 but opened up an 11-shot lead after two rounds with a 291. Both Sheary and Hill were under par through 36 holes with Sheary leading at 3-under. On Sunday, North Carolina crept to within five shots but solid back nines from Chua and Woods gave the Deacs enough to pull away down the stretch and post their second straight 291. The win was the first of the season for Wake and the 32nd in school history. The win also jumped the Deacs 10-spots in the latest Golfweek/Saragin College Rankings. Wake entered the weekend at No. 23 but after the convincing win, the Deacons now sit 13th. Wake Forest will have almost three weeks off to prepare for the Landfall Tradition on Oct. 24-26. Wake won the Landfall Tradition last season as Hill took home her first career medalist honors.
