WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 12th-ranked Wake Forest women's golf team returns to action this weekend at the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course in Franklin, Tenn. The first round is slated to begin on Friday morning, Sept. 26, with the second and third round set for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27-28. The Deacons will tee off at 8 a.m. Friday off of the tenth tee. This is the eighth annual Mason Rudolph Championship which annually attracts a top-notch field. This year is no exception as 16 of the 17 teams in the field are ranked in the top 41 of Golfworld/NGCA Preseason Poll, including nine of the top ten. The Deacons will send seniors Nannette Hill, Jean Chua, sophomores Allie Bodemann, Natalie Sheary and freshman Cheyenne Woods into action. Woods is coming off of a strong showing at the NCAA Preview where she finished tied for 26th in her first collegiate tournament. She posted rounds of 75-76-74 to pace the Deacons. Hill and Sheary are the only two Deacons that played in the Mason Rudolph last fall. Hill sandwiched a second round 80 between a pair of 73s to finish tied for 52nd while Sheary struggled in the first two rounds but closed with an even-par 72 to finish tied for 66th. Two weeks ago at the NCAA Fall Preview, Hill closed with two rounds of 74 to finish tied for 35th and Sheary finished 39th after a pair of 76s. This will be Chua's fourth appearance at the Mason Rudolph. Her best finish came as a freshman in the fall of 2005 when she finished tied for 16th. She finished tied for 38th in the fall of 2006 and the spring of 2007.
Bodemann will be making her 2008-09 debut this weekend. This will also be the first time Bodemann has played at the Mason Rudolph Championship. Last season, the Deacons finished 11th in the strong 17-team field. UCLA took the team title in 2007 with a new 54-hole record 13-under par, 851. Duke senior Amanda Blumenhurst won medalist honors by also carding a record 13-under par, 203 to win the tournament by four shots. The weather for the weekend looks to be ideal for golf, with temperatures around 80 and little to no chance of rain any day. Chua will also be blogging for Deacons Direct throughout the weekend.
