May 26, 2009 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Senior Nannette Hill and sophomore Natalie Sheary were named as National Golf Coaches Association All-Americans last Friday night at the NCAA Post-Tournament Banquet. Hill was named a second-team honoree after the best season of her career. She led the team with a 73.9 stroke average this season which was a full stroke lower than her career average. The Pelham, N.Y., native finished in the top-10 in seven of her 11 tournaments this year, including four fourth-place finishes. She also fired a pair of 68s with one of them coming at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in March where she finished with a school-record 54-hole total of 210. The All-American honors are a fitting end to Hill's great career. She also capped her run with a tied for sixth finish last week at the NCAA Championships. That was her fourth-straight NCAA Championship and it was the best finish of her career. Hill was one of just six Demon Deacons to make the NCAA finals four-straight years. This was the first All-American honors for Hill who becomes the 12th different Deacon to earn the distinction. She also earned All-Central Region honors for her performance at the NCAA Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio. Sheary is taking home honorable mention All-American honors for the second-straight season. This year, Sheary won two tournaments and finished in the top-20 seven times. One of her wins came at the ACC Championship in April, defeating three-time national Player of the Year Amanda Blumenherst in a playoff. Sheary was also named the ACC Co-Player of the Year this season, becoming the fourth Demon Deacon to do so. She averaged 74.8 strokes per round over 11 tournaments. Hill and Sheary are the first two Deacons since Stephanie Neill and Alexandra Armas in 1995 to earn All-American honors in the same season. Neill is the only four-time Demon Deacon All-American.
Maria Hernandez of Purdue was named the Ping NGCA Player of the Year after winning the NCAA Individual Medalist honors, which was her sixth win of the season. Melissa Luellen of National Champion Arizona State was named SkyCaddie Coach of the Year while USC's Jennifer Song won the Freshman of the Year as well at the Golfstat Cup.
