The No. 14 Wake Forest women's golf team carded an 11-over 299 in the first round of the ACC Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla. to land in a tie for fourth place.
The Deacs trail tournament leader Virginia, which boasts the top three individual scorers, by 15 strokes entering the second round. The Cavaliers are trying for their first ACC Championship in program history.
Natalie Sheary is in third place heading into Saturday's second round. The freshman posted a one-under 71 on the par-72, 6,367-yard LPGA International Legends Course. Sheary birdied holes two and 15 and recorded 15 pars on the day.
Allie Bodemann shot a two-over 74 and is currently tied for 22nd. The freshman led the Deacs in birdies on the day with three.
Nannette Hill recorded a four-over 76, including birdies on holes two and five. The junior finished tied for 24th in last year's conference championship.
Jordan Craig and Jean Chua are tied for 32nd as the pair posted six-over 78s Friday. Craig, a senior, is participating in her first ACC Championship. Chua finished in 14th place at the ACC Championship one year ago.
The Cavaliers shot a four-under 284 to take a commanding 10-stroke lead over second place Duke heading into Saturday's final round. Virginia's Joy Kim holds a one stroke lead over teammate Callie Nielson after posting a three-under 69 in the first round.
The Deacs finished second to the Blue Devils last season in Charlotte.
Teams will tee-off at 8 a.m. Saturday. A high of 83 degrees and a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms has been projected for the second round in Daytona Beach by Weather.com.
