Winston-Salem, N.C. - Wake Forest junior Maggie Simons was named the Carolinas Golf Association's Women's Player of the Year for 2005. The Raleigh, N.C. native finished as the No. 1 golfer based on the CGA rankings at the end of the year and will be honored at the Carolinas Golf Night in Pinehurst on February 10.

Simons had an outstanding summer that was topped by winning the North Carolina State Amateur title. She also finished second at the Western Amateur, fourth at the Eastern Amateur and tied for 17th at the Trans National.

Simons and the Demon Deacons will kick off the spring at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Los Angeles, Calif., February 13.
