Women's Golf Finishes 12th At Mercedes-Benz Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.-Senior Alexandra Armas represented the Wake Forest women's golf team with her second consecutive top-five finish, but it was not enough to help the Deacs move up in the final standings as the team finished 12th in the Mercedes-Benz Championships on Sunday in Knoxville, TN.

Armas fired rounds of 75, 75, and 73 during the three-day tournament to finish in a tie for fifth. In six rounds during the fall season, Armas has not had a round of over 75.

Duke claimed the team title as well as the individual winner. Jenny Chuasiriporn finished the tournament at four-under-par to lead the Blue Devils to the team title and win the individual crown by a comfortable three strokes..

Rounding out the top-five in the team competition was LSU, Georgia, Tulsa, and Furman.

After Armas, the rest of the Deacons struggled throughout the tournament. No Deacon posted scores below 78 besides Armas. As a team Wake Forest finished the tournament with a score of 946 to tie Auburn for 12th place.

Wake Forest's next tournament will be this weekend at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational at the Finley Golf Course.
