Women's Golf Finishes Fifth At The Rolex Fall Preview
MADISON, WI -- Senior Alexandra Armas (Las Palmas, Canary Islands) fired a two-under round of 70 to lead the 12th-ranked Wake Forest women's golf team to a fifth place finish in the Rolex Fall Preview at Madison, WI on Sunday.
The Deacs finished with a team score of 907, 18 strokes behind tournament champion Arizona. Grace Park of Arizona State won the individual title after firing rounds of 70, 71, and 69 in the three day event.
As a team the Deacons had their best day of the tournament putting together a round of 297. That total was the second best team score of the day in the 18 team field.
Armas showed steady improvement throughout the tournament as her score improved each day. Her three day total of two-over-par (218) placed her in a tie for fourth place.
Freshman Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain) was Wake Forest's second leading player as she finished the tournament 25th with a three day total of 229. Both junior Trina Casburn and sophomore Kelly Kirwin bounced back from scores above 80 on Saturday. Casburn shot a 74, 12 strokes better than her Saturday score, while Kirwin posted a 75, nine strokes better than her 84 on Saturday. Kirwin finished the tournament 46th, while Casburn was 54th.
Wake Forest will be in action again September 26-28 at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships in Knoxville, TN.
