KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Sophomore Cheyenne Woods tied her career-low with a 2-under 70 on Saturday to lead the Wake Forest women's golf team in the second round of the Mercedes Benz Championship at Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.

Woods made a total of five birdies in her round including one at her first hole of the day. After making the turn at even-par, she made birdies at Nos. 1 and 3 to climb to 2-under for the round and after a bogey at No. 6, she closed out the day with a nice birdie at the par-4 8th to finish with her second 70 of the season.

The last time Woods shot a 70 was in the opening round of the season at the Topy Cup in Japan. Woods will head into the final round tied for ninth at 2-over.

"This was the best round I have seen Cheyenne play," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "She managed her game beautifully and was in total control the entire day. She made some great up-and-downs and just played a phenomenal round."

As a team, the Deacons rebounded from a tough opening round to post a 10-over 298 and moved into 12th place heading into Sunday.

"We played better today and I think it was encouraging for the students to see a score under 300," Dailey continued. "After yesterday, we said we wanted to improve each day and we did that today. Now tomorrow, we have to go out there and do that same and just try to get better as a team."

Host Tennessee came into the second round with a 13-shot lead and after a 3-over 291, the Lady Vols will take an 8-shot advantage over Louisville into Sunday's final round. The Cardinals fired the low-round of the day on Saturday with a 2-under 286.

Junior Natalie Sheary stumbled out of the gate on Saturday, going 3-over through her first three holes. But the two-time All-American regrouped and remarkably parred the final 15 holes to shoot a second round 75.

Junior Dolores White had another good day on Saturday but just couldn't make a whole lot happen. She made three bogeys in the opening nine to go out in 3-over 39 but made eight pars and just one bogey on the front nine to shoot a second round 76. Coupled with a 79 in the opening round, White will start Sunday's final round tied for 54th.

Freshman Michelle Shin rebounded after a tough opening round, to post a 77 on Saturday. She got off to a rough start as she was 4-over through five holes after taking a penalty for hitting the wrong ball. The Cape Coral, Fla., native then made eight pars, one birdie and one bogey on the second nine to post a 77. She heads into the final round in a tie for 74th.

After making the turn at 2-over par, junior Allie Bodemann birdie the par-5 first hole to get to 1-over on the day but she would then bogey six of the final seven holes to post a second round 79. She is 16-over through two rounds and will start Sunday tied for 83rd.

Louisville's Sara-Maude Juneau shot a 69 on Saturday and leads the individual race by one shot over teammate Laura Anderson and Tennessee's Nathalie Mansson, who are each at 2-under. Juneau is looking to win her second-straight tournament as she also won the Lady Tar Heel Invitational last weekend.

The Deacons will start the final round at 9 am Sunday morning. Live scoring of the round can be found at www.golfstat.com.
