Sept. 27, 1998 Chapel Hill, NC-- The Wake Forest women's golf team finished play at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational in eighth place on Sunday. The 54-hole event was contested at the 6,075-yard, par-72 Chapel Hill Country Club in Chapel Hill, NC. The Demon Deacons shot a round of 305 over the final 18 holes to finish with a team total of 316-303-305=924. That was well off the blistering pace set by team champion Duke which finished with a ten-under par total of 290-281-283=854. The Blue Devils' Candy Hannemann took home the individual title with a four-under par total of 72-67-73=212. Sophomore Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain) was the leading Deacon individual in the field as she finished alone in 16th place with an eight-over par total of 75-75-74=224. Prieto was followed in the individual standings by junior Kelly Kirwin (Grand Rapids, MN) who was part of a four-way tie for 33rd place with a three day total of 81-74-79=234. One shot behind her in a three-way tie for 37th spot were freshman Kate Brenny (Little Falls, MN) and senior Kristen Wagner (Martinsville, IN) who finished with identical 54-hole totals of 80-77-78=235. The final Wake individual in the field was freshman Camille Lee (Orlando, FL) who carded a 75 in the final round to finish in a tie for 41st place at 83-79-75=237. The Demon Deacons will now be off until October 16th when they travel to Knoxville, TN to compete in the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships at the Gettysvue Country Club.
