FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Senior Jean Chua carded an even-par round of 72 to pace the Wake Forest women's golf team to a round of 301 on the second day of the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The Deacons are currently in 12th place with one round remaining. Chua's round, which consisted of five birdies and five bogies, was her lowest round of the season thus far. After a birdie on the par-3 fifth, Chua was 1-under with four to play but a bogie on six and three pars to finish gave her an even-par round. Chua will start the final round in a tie for 36th. Senior Nannette Hill and sophomore Natalie Sheary posted matching rounds of 4-over 76 on Saturday. Sheary, who fired a 1-under 71 in the first round, made four bogies in her first seven holes but birdied her eighth and tenth hole to climb back to 2-over. She would finish the last eight holes with a pair of bogies for a 76. Sheary is in a tie for 29th with a two-round total of 147. Hill was just one over at the turn but four bogies and just one birdie on her second nine brought her home in 39. She will start the final round in a tie for 56th at 9-over. Freshman Cheyenne Woods birdied her first hole of the day for the second straight day but would go six over her next seven holes to card 41 on her opening nine. On her second nine, Woods would card three birdies, three bogies and three pars for a closing nine of 36 and a round of 77. Woods is tied for 52nd at 8-over par. Like Woods, sophomore Allie Bodemann birdied her first hole of the day but unfortunately, that was her only birdie of the round as she would go on to shoot an 81. UCLA had all five players card an under-par round, including a six-under 66 by Sydney Michaels. The Bruins carded an astonishing second round 275 to open up a six shot lead over Oklahoma State, who also shot under par in the second round at 282.
Individually, Vanderbilt's Megan Grehan posted eight birdies and no bogies for a superb round of 8-under 65 and is the leader by one shot heading into the final round. First round leader Candace Schepperle followed her 67 with a 2-under 70 to sit a shot back at 7-under. The Deacons will start the final round early Sunday morning, looking to move up the board. Wake is currently 12th but just five shots behind ninth place Purdue. Live scoring of the final round can be found at www.golfstat.com.
