Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf squad finished its first round of the 2000 fall season tied for third at the Stetson Fall Preview tournament in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL Friday afternoon.

The Deacons are tied with USC and Auburn with one-round scores of 300. Senior Marta Prieto and sophomore Maria Beautell each finished the first day at Par 72. Those scores are good enough to tie with three others for third place heading into tomorrow's competition. Sophomore Nuria Clau carded a one-round 77 to rank third in the Deacon-five and in a tie for 33rd overall.

Junior Katie Brenny shot a seven-over 79 and enters the second round in a tie for 58th place. Deborah Means, in her first collegiate tournament, carded an 81 on the first day of play and lists tied for 75th.

Duke University leads the event with a one-round 296. Arizona lists in second place with a 10-over 298. Individually, Arizona's Cristina Baena and LSU's Katy Harris each finished the first round with a one-under 71 and are tied for first place.

The Deacon women's golf squad will continue with the second day of competition at Stetson Fall Preview Tournament in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL Saturday morning/afternoon, with the third round to be played Sunday morning.
